Run Rate. The production rate when actually producing (running). Inverse of Cycle Time. Run Time. The manufacturing process is scheduled for production and is running. Run Time is calculated by subtracting downtime from planned production time. During the Production Test Run the complete production process is tested for production of conforming parts at the promised production rate. The Production Test Run shall thus normally be performed after the PPAP approval but before the production rate is ramped up to meet the agreed level. The run rate concept refers to the extrapolation of financial results into future periods. For example, a company could report to its investors that its sales in the latest quarter were $5,000,000, which translates into an annual run rate of $20,000,000. Run rates can be used in a number of situations, The purpose of a Run @ Rate is to verify: the supplier's actual manufacturing process is capable of producing components that meet GM's on-going quality requirements, as stated in the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), at quoted tooling capacity for a specified period of time; and The maximum production rate is the production rate of a manufacturing process with no defects and no downtime. With a production cycle of six minutes, the maximum production rate for Fictional Computers is 10 hard drives per hour. Performance can also be calculated based on Ideal Run Rate. The equivalent Ideal Run Rate in our example is 60 parts per minute. Formula: (Total Count / Run Time) / Ideal Run Rate. Example: (19,271 widgets / 373 minutes) / 60 parts per minute = 0.8611 (86.11%) Quality. Quality is the third of the three OEE factors to be calculated. It accounts for manufactured parts that do not meet quality standards. Run at Rate The Run @ Rate method aims to check the capacity ( quantity) of the process steps of a product during an early stage in the product development process . Especially in mass production you want to determine whether the planned ramp-up curve can be produced with the corresponding demand .

The purpose of Run at Rate is to determine whether a manufacturing process (including sub-processes) is capable of producing acceptable product at the quoted rate.
