I have a Giant ATX and, during the process of removing the skewer in the rear wheel, found that quite a few the ball bearings (which were designed to be loose in the raceways – a terrible design) had come out of the raceway and were sitting in the center of the inside of the hub. So I just bought one of the bikes (not the atx one dh or the all black atx dh team the one in between 99/00 I think ?) Could I be right in thinking that these were team only frames and not for sale ? I always wanted when I was younger, Im a retro hoarder i guess you could say but this is my I'll concur what 11spd said both bikes are solid for what you want to spend however you might have better luck on finding out about the bikes on Forums - Mtbr.com rather than a road bike forum. GIANT ATX 830I got this bike back in 1996. It cost me about $450 with acera x componenets and a cheap entry no name fork. I upgraded to a 98 INdy XC all LX components with grip shift shifters, and now I love the bike. It has taken me through so much I could never get rid of it.
