International trade is the exchange of goods and services between countries. Trading globally gives consumers and countries the opportunity to be exposed to goods and services not available in Percentage-wise, international trade comprises almost half of global economic activity. International trade opens new markets and exposes countries to goods and services unavailable in their domestic economies. Countries that export often develop companies that know how to achieve a competitive advantage in the world market. Alen Mulabdic is working on issues related to international trade and macroeconomics with a focus on regional integration. Alen holds a Ph.D. Economics from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva (Switzerland) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Siena (Italy). All of the economic theories of international trade suggest that it enhances efficiency. In this regard, international trade is like a new technology. It adds to the productive capacity of all countries that engage in trade. Some of the efficiency is due to comparative advantage, as in the Ricardo and Heckscher-Ohlin theories.
